What to Pack When You’re Living Your Gossip Girl Dream in NYC

Gossip Girl

Hey Upper East Siders, you don’t know me, but I know you and I know you’re ready to take on the big C … I meant the big city, of course, what did you think? Chuck Bass? As if! …or if as Blair maybe. Want my advice? Yes, you desperately need it for your Gossip Girl dream life in NYC.

Designer Eric Damon, who had previously assisted designer Patricia Fields on the wardrobe of the characters in the highly infamous series, Sex and the City, had almost turned down the chance to work with Gossip Girl, however, he later took it on. He read books and created mood boards on what he envisioned each character’s style to be like.

Interestingly, most of the characters being born into wealthy families with a limitless credit card had no reason not to wear every single designer garment, so they wore all kinds of luxury items, from Blair’s iconic headbands to Serena’s casually sexy mini dresses, everything was luxury chic styled to fit the Gossip Girl aesthetic.

Queen B/ Blair Waldorf

Gossip Girl exclusive: Dressing like Blair is the goal, aim for Checkered Blazers, Pleated skirts, tights, and knee-high socks paired with that gorgeous designer handbag. Your outfits should scream class and confidence, because that NYC street is your personal runway, and accessorize with the pièce de resistance for Blair: a headband. Pearls, headbands, bows, and chic sets of jewellery are her go-to. Keep in mind brands like Chanel, Dior, and Valentino are a staple to her fashion, because she doesn’t follow the trends, she sets them.

Serena Van Der Woodsen

Spotted: S with another scandal? Gossip Girl here with all the details- Serena acts as if that outfit was just thrown on and still ended up being iconic. Don’t be fooled by that, her style is all about being effortless, sexy, and boho glam. S likes to play with different textures like those mixed drinks in her party girl era, she has a rebellious, free-spirited approach to fashion.

Eric Damon said that her style was the result of having “no stable home and several stepdads.” How do you walk out of a scandal and still look irresistible? Serena’s got that covered, with mini dresses, iconic over-the-knee boots, that statement jewelry, paired with her no-makeup chaotic look. Think Balmain, Hervé Léger, Rag & Bone + Marchesa for that just-threw-this-on look. So Effortless? Maybe …but Iconic? Always.

Little J/ Jenny Humphrey

Little J heading for the Queen’s crown? Jenny Humphrey, a unique character, whose style evolved over the seasons of Gossip Girl. Eric Damon did a fantastic job with her style, from her daddy’s girl looks to her gradual change to rebellious goth looks. He said that her outfits showcased her journey through every conflict she faced.

For example, at the start, to fit in with Blair’s group, she dressed like them, and as soon as she became the Queen of the school, she left behind her old style and embraced the Upper East Side style. The interesting aspect of her style was the fact that although it was influenced by Serena and Blair, she always added her special touch to it.

Essentials of her style include leather garments, fishnets, studded accessories, and combat boots. Focus on brands like Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood, and Hot Topic.

And now that we have covered the girls, let me talk about the standout, chic, and charming fashion of the guys in the series for all my Gossip Girl lover guys, and even to other guys who just want inspiration and don’t like the show.

Chuck Bass

This just in: Is Chuck dressed to impress? And to impress whom? All that aside, let me tell you, designer Eric Damon said that Chuck Bass was actually his favorite to dress due to the fact that he was the one to indulge in his wealth, and that reflected in his fashion, too. Chuck’s style, just like Jenny’s, evolved- although his was much subtler. Think Three-piece suits, scarves, Bow ties, suspenders, silk shirts, etc., for the perfect Gossip Girl Chuck Bass look, pick brands like Ralph Lauren, Armani, and Bottega Veneta.

Dan Humphrey

Gossip Girl exclusive: Lonely boy can make the Brooklyn brooding bro style cool? Dan Humphrey’s style is actually pretty affordable and easy to recreate. It’s very artsy and budget-friendly. Go for pieces like Flannel shirts, Slouchy scarves, layered sweaters, Converse, or boots, and use earthy tones or neutrals, as his style was very low-key. Brands like Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, or Levi’s are the perfect stores to shop his style.

Golden Boy/ Nate Archibald

Last but not least, the Nation’s Favorite, all-American “Golden Boy” Nate Archibald, a heartstealer for Gossip Girl fans who swoon over his looks. He was the typical rich, white boy in preppy fashion and Ivy League school dreams. His fashion too followed the same route. Eric Damon revealed that Nate’s style consisted mostly of collared shirts, button-downs, knit sweaters, khakis, or loafers, but he always appeared relaxed yet stunningly polished and crisp. Look for old money polo brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Lacoste, and Brooks Brothers.

Designer Eric Damon mentions that he just wanted to create a living magazine, and he did just that, because there is no doubt that the characters’ individuality plays a major role in all their fashion choices, and these were just some of the reasons why Gossip Girl was so loved. With this, we come to the end of our exclusive. They may be richer and more chic than you, but you know you love them.
