It seems like the Cannes Film Festival red carpet is now more anticipated than even the Met Gala. Many models, celebrities, singers, artists, and industry experts attend this festival. Cannes is the perfect place for anything extra; even the most minimalistic celebrities turn up a notch while showing up here. These pieces of high fashion underline Cannes’s role as a platform where fashion becomes timeless art.

Let’s take a look at some of these looks that belong in a museum

1. Bella Hadid in Schiaparelli Haute Couture ( 2021)

“One of my favourite chronically online responses to Bella Hadid’s Schiaparelli haute couture moment, at the Covid-era Cannes Film Festival in 2021, was that the outfit was on-the-nose given ‘the year that lungs had had’ –  Jonah Waterhouse, assistant fashion features and news editor.

During this time, the world was still dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and this dress was the perfect way to sum it all up in a fashionable sense. The look made waves both online and in print, appearing in headlines around the world.

2. Rihanna in Dior (2017) 

No one does any event like Rihanna, she always brings her A game to any event. She wore a creamy white Dior ball gown with a matching floor-length cape and tiny glasses. 

3. Cameron Diaz in Versace (2002)

Let’s make this clear, Cameron Diaz made a sheer trend before it was even a trend— wearing a sparkly one-shoulder sheer Versace dress to the Cannes in 2002. 

4. Rawdah Mohamed in Robert Wun (2023) 

Rawdah Mohamed’s ‘scorched bride’ look by Rawdah Mohamed was a beautiful design, making it a timeless classic. He put a nice spin on the Cannes dress code. 

5. Fan Bing Bing in Laurence Xu (2010) 

Fan Bingbing is known for her spectacular outfits at Cannes, especially for putting the spotlight on Asian designers. This dress is an intimate take on China’s motifs, incorporating a dragon into stylish waves.

6. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Floral Dress

Aishwarya is known for captivating the audience with her Cannes looks every year. I am hoping this year will be no different, at the Cannes Red Carpet 2025. She showed up with a dramatic black gown adorned with colourful flowers, cascading from the body to the skirt. 

7. Fan Bingbing in a majestic tiger gown 

Once again, Fan Bingbing has left the world speechless with her spectacular gown design. She was wearing a long, voluminous gown with a tiger motif set against a lush forest backdrop. She has blended traditional Chinese symbolism with modern fashion, indicating the fine craftsmanship of asian designers. We are looking forward to her outfit at the Cannes Red Carpet 2025. 

8. Naomi Campbell in Roberto Cavalli (2010)

Famous model Naomi looked glamorous in this chic and luxurious dress by Roberto Cavalli. Drenched in shimmering gold, she appeared as though she had been sculpted from pure elegance.

9. Bella Hadid in Gucci

There never has been and never will be anything better than the Tom Ford–era Gucci. This white cutout gown from the Fall 1996 collection was just such a jaw-dropping moment—so effortless, yet so striking. Could cry! It’s also one of the few times Hadid has been styled by Law Roach.

How can we forget Princess Diana’s iconic red carpet looks? Her Royal Highness wore an ice-blue draped custom Catherine Walker gown inspired by the one worn by Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief. This dress was her most loved look, simple yet graceful and elegant, suited for a Queen. 

11. Gemma Chan in Oscar de la Renta

Twice in a row, Naomi Campbell ate all her looks at the Cannes red carpet, always dressed to impress. She is another model I’m looking forward to at the Cannes Red Carpet 2025.

And those were some of the best looks throughout the year at the Cannes Film Festival. The audience often looks forward to this event because of the amazing and glamorous designs that the celebrities put up. Most of these looks are museum-worthy, and all of them are awfully creative and luxurious. We are really hoping to see some great creations at this year’s Cannes Red Carpet 2025.
